Roof Cost Calculator

Price a new roof by hand.

No satellite needed. Enter your home's size (or its footprint), pick a pitch and material, and this calculator applies the same published state cost data as our satellite estimator — including a 10% waste and complexity allowance and tear-off of the layers you have now.

Planning range, not a quote. Decking replacement, if your roof needs it, runs $65–$95 per sheet installed and is only countable after tear-off. How we get our numbers.

The Math, In The Open

How this calculator works.

A roof is priced in squares — 100 square feet of roof surface each. Your roof's surface is bigger than its ground footprint because of pitch: a 6/12 roof has about 12% more surface than the same house under a flat roof. The calculator multiplies footprint by the pitch factor, adds 10% for waste and complexity, then prices those billable squares at the published installed rate for your material and state (tear-off of one layer included; extra layers added per square).
